The West of Mauritius

The West coast of Mauritius traditionally starts with Port Louis and end's as far South as Le Morne.

Traditionally, the West conjured images of a dry sleepy coastline, and many travelers would decide to opt for the north or East coasts of the island as their prime choice of destination for the image of whiter sands and better tourism facilities. Today however, this could be no further from the truth. This lush and mountainous coastline is now home to the Island's most exciting developments with prime real estate opportunities. The west, Especially the areas between Tamarin Bay and Le Morne are also highly coveted residential areas pulling expatriates and upper class Mauritians to residential areas such as Black Rock, Marguery and various IRS and RES schemes.

Lesser developed, more exclusive and arguably more exotic than it's northern counterpart, the West Coast is a place that invites true inland discovery and adventure filled possibilities. This mountainous part of the island contrasts the rich fauna of the Black River Gorges with the wild and beautiful sandy beaches of Tamarin Bay where one can admire incredible sunsets with surfers on the Horizon.

In terms of tourism activities, the West coast is full of possibilities. Starting with a growing range of restaurants, as well as nature and sea oriented activities, visitors in the West will be spoiled for choice.

The only downside is that those looking for an active nightlife will tend towards the North, where places such as Grand Bay will seem more attractive for teenagers and young adults, however, the West weighs in the balance with activities such as kite surfing, surfing, diving, fishing, hiking, dolphins, water-sports and abseiling.

In terms of Beaches, visitors will rave about Tamarin Bay, especially early in the morning and in the late afternoon. Other great beaches are La Preneuse and Le Morne "kite beach" known for its idyllic kitesurfing conditions. In general, beaches between tamarin Bay and La Preneuse are great, and guests renting beachfront villas will be spoilt for choice of great beaches and even better sunsets.
